We’ve still some way to go until Stranger Things Season 5 lands on our television screens, and the Duffer Brothers continue to tirelessly chisel away at the scripts for the final season of the hit sci-fi series. That, however, has not stopped the duo from teasing fans on what we can expect from the show’s final stretch – which the writers previously confirmed would incorporate shorter runtimes compared to Season 4.
In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, the brothers confirmed the fifth season would follow up storylines established in Season 2. Ross explained a successful debut season “freaked us out,” which led the brothers “to build up this bigger world, that this was going to be ongoing.”
Ross said they would be “pulling from a lot of those big Season 2 ideas” to bring together the final season of Stranger Things, which launched on Netflix in 2016. The writers admitted that a substantial amount of their “big ending stuff has pulled from stuff that we thought was going to be in Season 2.”
While plot details and cast information remains scarce, Season 2 introduced fans to the Mind Flayer as Will adjusted to life outside of the Upside Down.
Stranger Things stars Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, and Charlie Heaton. All four seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix.
