An unemployed drifted desperate to earn some cash takes a job as a janitor at an abandoned children’s entertainment center. The job seems simple enough: complete a number of tasks to help clean the building and then shut it up for good. However, his job is quickly made difficult when the facility’s animatronic mascot characters come to life, possibly as a result of some kind of demonic possession, and try to kill him.
That sounds like the summary for the next game in the popular Five Nights at Freddy’s horror video game series, doesn’t it? Most people, upon reading that description, would probably think so. But nope – that’s the plot of Willy’s Wonderland, an upcoming horror film starring Nicolas Cage in the role of the drifter-turned-janitor.
Not much is known about Willy’s Wonderland, which was first announced in 2019 and began production in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this year. However, a 15 second teaser was recently released on YouTube, which shows Cage fleeing from a ragged, worn down animatronic as a voice in the background tells him “It’s your birthday!” and encourages him to celebrate. The teaser also indicates that Willy’s Wonderland is currently scheduled to release some time in 2021. It will debut in theaters as well as via cable and video on demand (VOD).
Recently, Cage has appeared in a number of horror and thriller films, including Kill Chain, Grand Isle, Primal, and the H. P. Lovecraft-inspired Color Out of Space in 2019. He is also currently working on the upcoming comedy film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which stars Cage as himself and is also currently planned to release in 2021. The film will feature Cage reprising some of his most iconic roles as he struggles to please an insane billionaire fan.
Are you looking forward to Willy’s Wonderland? Do you find the animatronics in the teaser trailer as terrifying as we do? Let us know!
