Daredevil: Revival Resets With Radical Creative Revamp

The long-awaited Daredevil: Born Again has hit a production snag – leading to the joint dismissal of the writers and directors attached to the series. These changes are in a bid to reassess the vision of the reboot. Executives at Marvel and the company chief, Kevin Feige, took advantage of the industry strikes to reassess the Daredevil series and the direction it had taken, following a report published by The Hollywood Reporter.

The outcome is clear for all to see: the series required considerable creative rework. In late September, the head writers of the Daredevil series, Chris Ord and Matt Corman, were released from the company. Following the removal of Ord and Corman, the directors attached to the series were dismissed. Now, Marvel are caught in a search for new helmers.

With significant gaps in the production team, the remainder of the series is open to creative interpretation, depending on who Marvel hires to fill the spaces. As explained by THR, Ord and Corman had conceived their Daredevil project as a legal procedural – while the titular character, played by Charlie Cox, failed to show up in costume until the fourth episode. Ord and Corman will become executive producers on the series instead, while a handful of scenes and episodes will remain as is.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who played Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, weighed in on the revival revamp. “Every cool project I’ve been involved with has evolved constantly during pre- production, production and post. It’s just reported on these days as if it’s big news,” D’Onofrio shared on Twitter.

“It’s not. It’s simple a bunch of creatives doing their best to get it right. It’s a constant in this business. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Frankly I’d be worried if we were settling for less.”

All three seasons of Daredevil, including She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, featuring Matt Murdock, are available to stream on Disney+. In other Marvel news, we almost had an Avenger cameo in Moon Knight.
