A fan-favourite Marvel character could appear in the upcoming Agatha Harkness spin-off. As the series gets closer to an eventual release date, a recent copyright filing from Marvel Studios (H/T ComicBook) confirms that Sasheer Zamata will portray Jennifer Kale (credited as Jen K in the submitted document).
A release date for the Agatha Harkness spin-off has yet to be determined – with September 19, 2024, serving as a placeholder in the filing.
“Jennifer Kale, a present day member of the Kale family, is a lookalike for Zhered-Na and may be her reincarnation,” a character description from Marvel reads. For the uninitiated, Jennifer Kale is a reincarnated Atlantean sorceress and highly trained mystic once practiced by Zhered-Na.
“Kale can cast a wide variety of spells, project magical bolts, create mystical shields, open interdimensional portals, perform astral projection and affect the memories of or mesmerize others, among numerous other feats.”
Kathryn Hahn, who reprises her scene-stealing role as Agatha Harkness, described the spin-off as “a total surprise” in an interview with The Radio Times in 2021.
“I mean, you’d have to be a deep diving… comic book aficionado to know Agatha Harkness from the comics. I had never heard of her before. And so the fact that this is happening is just testament to the incredible writing.”
“It’s so meta that WandaVision was a show about sitcoms, and of course, it’s going to have a spin-off. It just makes total sense, in a very meta way,” Hahn added.
Those confirmed to appear in the Agatha Harkness spin-off include Kathryn Hahn, Emma Caulfield, Patti LuPone, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, and Maria Dizzia.
