A full-length trailer for Scream 6 promises an all-new Ghostface running rampant in New York City and features the return of legacy characters Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), last seen in Scream 4. The trailer opens with Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega of Wednesday fame) being hunted into a grocery store by another incarnation of a masked killer.
In swift succession, the killer picks off innocent bystanders who get in the way and stalks the aisles with a shotgun searching for Sam and Tara. “I had this secret, there’s a darkness inside of me,” says Sam, who can be seen holding a Ghostface mask. She says the darkness has followed her to New York City. Sam later meets with Kirby, and the two connect over their shared history of surviving Ghostface.
The footage teases a shrine to the masked killer, and a warning that this latest incarnation isn’t “like any other Ghostface” seen before. Gale is more than prepared for another encounter, telling the mystery voice on the phone that after countless attempts on her life, “it never works out for the dipshit in the mask,” before we see someone in the background being snatched away by the antagonist.
After breaking into Gale’s apartment, in the lead-up to a tense showdown, this latest iteration of Ghostface makes the chilling declaration that “there’s never been one like me, Gale.”
Scream 6 will further star Henry Czerny (who is set to appear in Mission Impossible 7 next year), Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Thomas Cadrot, and Andre Anthony. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct their second film in the franchise following Scream (2022).
