Ryan Reynolds has revealed details of a scrapped Deadpool Christmas film that came close to becoming a reality – and this would make our Christmas if Wade Wilson provided us with some R-rated Christmas joy. The project, however, never saw the light of day following Disney’s acquisition of Fox.
In an interview with The Big Issue, Reynolds was asked if he felt any of his films could be improved by becoming a musical, to which the actor responded that he “would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie.”
This admission led the Free Guy actor to reveal that four years ago, alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the co-writers behind both Deadpool films, the three of them had penned “a Christmas movie” starring the merc with a mouth. Sadly, since Disney’s acquisition of Fox finalised in 2019, the film, according to Reynolds, became “lost in the shuffle” and “it never got made.”
The 46-year-old Canadian actor remains hopeful that the project will see the light of day sometime in the future. “Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”
So, while there’s every chance we might not see a Deadpool Christmas film any time soon (but we wouldn’t say no to one), we will see a third Deadpool film in 2024, and Reynolds will be reprising his role as Wade Wilson since debuting as the superhero in 2016. The third film has been one of many Marvel movies caught in a recent release reshuffle.
