Rick and Morty Season 6 Gets First Trailer

Spoilers ahead for Rick and Morty Season 5. A 30-second trailer for Rick and Morty Season 6 has landed – and the promo forewarns the end of the universe as we know it. The trailer splices footage throughout the season – predominantly from the Season 5 finale.

“A lot has happened in the past few years,” an ominously voiced narrator declares as the trailer begins. “The universe as we know it has ended. But don’t let that get you down” the voiceover continues.

The only footage from the trailer showcasing what we can expect from Season 6 – is typically redacted from view – replaced with a big red spoiler sign. “Oh my god, stop explaining, stop explaining!” Morty can be seen shouting at the unknown object. Along with Rick – the two of them are wide-eyed and tired. In a recent interview with IGN, Rick and Morty’s co-creator Justin Roiland described the sixth season as “a bit more canonical.”

Roiland says that Season 6 will reward “fans of the show that have been watching up to this point…So it’s like, I think we’re kind of finally back into the rhythm of Rick and Morty, and I think Season 6 is… I didn’t particularly think Season 5 was bad, but Season 6 is f*cking amazing. It really is a f*cking quality season.”

In the Season 5 finale, Evil Morty destroys the Central Finite Curve, an inter-dimensional barrier that seals off all the realities where Rick isn’t the smartest person in the universe. Evil Morty escapes to a new part of the multiverse with a yellow portal gun. The finale further revealed Rick’s backstory as he hunts the multiverse for another Rick who’d killed his wife and daughter.

Rick and Morty Season 6 premieres on Adult Swim on Sunday, September 4 at 11 p.m ET/PT. Created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty stars Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Kari Wahlgren.
