Actress Tatiana Maslany is well known for portraying multiple roles within the same story. Maslany rose to fame in the Canadian sci-fi series Orphan Black, which ran from 2013 to 2017, in which she played dozens of identical clones created as part of a secret government project. Her ability to seamlessly swap between voices, styles and personality makes Maslany a highly suitable casting choice for the title character of Marvel and Disney’s upcoming superhero TV series She-Hulk.
Maslany will play the part of Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who is also the cousin of Avengers mainstay Bruce Banner, aka the Incredible Hulk. After gaining access to his powers (in the comics, via an emergency transfusion of Banner’s blood) she awakens her own “She-Hulk” personality, possessing the super strength and durability that the Hulk exhibits without sacrificing any of her trademark intelligence and wit. Walters’ condition is usually portrayed as permanent – luckily, Maslany looks great in green!
She-Hulk joins the lineup of Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-in series to be produced for the Disney+ service, alongside WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. The first season of She-Hulk is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, as filming has not yet begun due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Other talent attached to the She-Hulk series include director Kat Coiro, best known for her work on Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and head writer Jessica Gao, who wrote a number of the most popular episodes of animated series Rick & Morty, including Season 3’s now-famous “Pickle Rick”.
While we haven’t yet seen any teasers for She-Hulk, other shows such as WandaVision have begun to debut their initial trailers. Marvel and Disney definitely have an exciting few years of programming lined up!
