Gina Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune on Disney +’s hit show The Mandalorian, has been fired following her controversial social media posts.
In a statement obtained by io9, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
The statement came Wednesday night following the Twitter hashtag #FireGinaCarano started trending after the actress posted a story to her Instagram, which some have deemed to be anti-semetic. The story has since been deleted, but some people took a screenshot of the post and shared it.
In the story, Carano appeared to compare political intolerance to that of the treatment of Jewish people in Nazi Germany: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … ‘Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
This is not the first time the former MMA artist has come under fire for her controversial social media posts. Carano has previously faced criticism for mocking covid face masks and spreading voter fraud conspiracies.
The actress has also been accused of mocking people who choose to put their preferred pronouns in their social media bios. This came after Carano put the words “beep/bop/boop” in her profile. Carano has argued that she is not mocking transgender people.

It had been thought that Carano may reprise her role as Cara Dune in the upcoming Disney+ show Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic. However, following Lucasfilm’s statement saying “there are no plans for her to be [employed by Lucasfilm] in the future”, we can assume that this will not happen.
