Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to begin filming at the end of October, and actor Josh Hutcherson, who returns to the series, has teased “higher” stakes for the sequel and promises the second film will be “scarier” than its predecessor.
“It’s much bigger, the stakes are higher,” the actor, also known for his work on The Hunger Games and The Beekeeper, revealed in an interview with Esquire.
“There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way. I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”
Matthew Lillard recently confirmed on Instagram that his villain, William Afton, would return for the sequel, and revealed that he had received “a text” with his filming dates, set for the beginning of November (via ScreenRant).
“So, we’re going to work. I’m really thrilled,” Lillard said. He praised the script for the sequel as “fantastic” and added that the team were “all excited” for the film.
A behind-the-scenes photo from horror studio Blumhouse, released in April, suggested series antagonist Mangle, designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, would debut in the sequel.
“Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is working their magic again! We aren’t sure what they’re working on, but we know it will be great!,” the tweet reads.
Released on October 27, 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s was directed by Emma Tammi and stars Elizabeth Lail and Mary Stuart Masterson. The film features a wealth of cameos from YouTube personalities such as MatPat, CoryxKenshin, Dawko, and 8-BitRyan.
