Filming for Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 has commenced – courtesy of a report from Comic Book. Director and executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis broke the news during the recent Talking Dead: The Walking Dead Universe Preview 2022 special on Sunday (August 7).
He promised a “reinvention” of the series – which moves from Texas to Savannah, Georgia, and welcomes back former series regular Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) – who appeared during the Season 7 finale alongside Morgan Jones (Lennie James). Most notably, the show’s location pulls into the territory of its predecessor, The Walking Dead. Whether this is a coincidence or intentional is yet to be seen.
Season 8 will provide the spin-off with “a brand new palette to work with, visually, and a lot of that kind of low-country, beach areas as a background, that’s something that our characters [will] navigate,” Satrazemis explained. Showrunner Andrew Chambliss discussed “the promise of that final scene between Madison and Morgan in the Season 7 finale where it’s the two of them partnering up to take down this monolithic force that we only know as P.A.D.R.E.”
He added that they were “excited about seeing these two iconic characters within The Walking Dead Universe teamed up together to bring down this really nefarious group.”
Dickens reprises her role as Madison – the only surviving member of the Clark family – after Alycia Debnam-Carey exited the show toward the end of Season 7. At the mid-point of Season 4, Madison appeared to sacrifice herself by setting a herd of walkers on fire and locking herself inside the Dell Diamond Baseball Stadium to save her family.
Alongside Lennie James and Kim Dickens, Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 will further star Colman Domingo, Ruben Blades, Danay Garcia, Jenna Elfman, Karen David, Mo Collins, Alexa Nisenson, Christine Evangelista, and Austin Amelio.
