In 2024, the Fantastic Four film will debut within the MCU, and mark the beginning of Phase 6. However – according to the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, courtesy of a story from The Hollywood Reporter, the film will not serve as an origin story to the heroes who launched the universe of Marvel Comics in 1961. Bearing that in mind – Feige understands the challenge at hand, saying that the studio has “set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
Instead – their approach to fleshing out the Fantastic Four will be comparable to Marvel’s collaboration with Sony in drafting Spider-Man into the MCU. “A lot of people know this origin story.” said Feige. He added: “A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?”
With production beginning in 2023 on Fantastic Four, cast details and plot information remain, at this stage, a complete mystery – including whether John Krasinski, who appeared in a cameo as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will return to the MCU to reprise the role.
Marvel is still searching to secure a director for Fantastic Four – after Jon Watts, who’d previously directed all three of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films, bowed out from the project. In 2015, Josh Trank directed Fantastic Four, considered a reboot of the franchise following 2004’s commercially disappointing Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
The 2015 film was a commercial and critical failure – with criticisms drawn to almost every aspect of the film – which starred Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell. Schedules permitting, Fantastic Four is due to debut in cinemas on November 8, 2024.
