Amazon Prime Reveals ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and Release Date

Amazon Prime has released the first teaser trailer and given fans a glimpse of their The Lord Of The Rings show titled The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. Talks around Amazon Prime’s The Lord Of The Rings TV show has long been circulating with many left to speculate and anticipate revisiting Middle-earth.

So what does the trailer reveal? Set thousands of years before the events of The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit, the one-minute teaser showed stunning fiery ring-creating visuals, an ambient soundtrack, and a foreboding narration. The teaser revealed no set pieces or a glimpse of the characters or scenery, but in a first teaser, it’s not that unsurprising.

The not-Cate-Blanchett Galadriel speaks “Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his throne in the Land of Mordor, where the Shadows lie.” It’s certainly ominous, given that we know how this ends.

The video description reads “A new age begins September 2, 2022. Journey to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” So the show will be hitting Amazon Prime on September 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was filmed in New Zealand like its predecessor, but future seasons will likely be in the United Kingdom. Speaking of which, currently, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has a second season already ordered.

Of the series, Amazon said in the teaser’s description: “Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.” Adding it “will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.”

The description also adds “the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.” So who is starring? The show features an ensemble cast including Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones) as Beldor, Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones, Ripper Street) as Oren, Markella Kavenagh as Tyra, as well as Nazanin Boniadi (How I Met Your Mother) and Owain Arthur amongst others.

Patrick McKay and John D. Payne are the showrunners for the show, whilst Wayne Che Yip, J.A. Bayona, and Charlotte Brändström direct.
