Adult Swim Split Ties With Rick and Morty’s Justin Roiland

Adult Swim has parted ways with Justin Roiland, one of the co-creators of Rick and Morty, in the wake of serious domestic abuse charges against him earlier in the month. A spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the network had “ended its association with Justin Roiland,” courtesy of a report from Deadline. In the tweet, seen further below, it was reported the “talented and dedicated crew” would resume work on Season 7.

It is understood the title roles of Rick and Morty, voiced by Roiland, will be recast. The High On Life creator (the newly released FPS title with Squanch Games) appeared in court on January 12, 2023, for a pre-trial hearing, after being charged with felony domestic violence following an incident in May 2020, as reported by GameLuster. No date has been set for Roiland’s trial, and there has been no official word on Roiland’s role with Hulu’s Solar Opposites.

Following Roiland’s exit from Adult Swim, Squanch Games released a short statement to confirm his departure from the studio, thanks to a story from ComicBook. “On January 16, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland’s resignation, a Twitter post reads. “The passionate team at Squanch Games will keep developing games we know our fans love while continuing to support and improve High on Life.”

Created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty stars Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Kari Wahlgren. High On Life was released across Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in December and has been met with rave reviews, finding success on Steam and the Xbox Game Pass.
